On this day, I thank Malala Yousafzai for reminding me that there are no excuses. There are no excuses for young girls not to receive adequate educations. There are no excuses for women to be shamed into covering their bodies against their will. There are no excuses for young girls being too scared to walk home, because men will cat call and harass them. There are no excuses for lack of access to important medical resources based on gender.
There are no excuses.
Malala Yousafzai has shown me, and the world, that we can be #strongerthan the illegitimate and faulty excuses that are offered to us every day. We can be stronger than the repression we face. We can be stronger than the loudest voice that tries to silence us. We can be stronger than a world that discriminates against billions of people, simply due to their predisposed gender.
Malala taught me that the most important thing you can do in your life, is simply to remember that you’re stronger than the strongest excuse.
