Today in America we celebrate independence, “freedom over tyranny” our forefathers called it. What did our fore-mothers call it? How might the Declaration of Independence differ if women had written it or even been consulted?
Girls should write their own declaration of independence, in their own voices and addressing their own issues, hopes, and rights. Let’s start today.
When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for girls to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with a patriarchal society , and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which they are entitled, a decent respect to the opinions of girl-kind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all girls are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
