For the year 2014, our team started the ambitious project of sponsoring rallies across the country for the Day of the Girl. The 2014 Rally Project was an effort to raise young female voices, create a new generation of activists and promote action for gender equality. These rallies were led by youth who will bring together local organizations in order to create action. We envisioned the rallies to be a foundation for local organizations concerned with girls’ issues, such as girl’s education, media portrayal, Title IX, sex trafficking, street harassment, and other Day-related topics, to share their message. The rallies were an interactive experience that will included dance, music, and poetry elements in addition to speakers. Most importantly, we hoped for rallies to inspire participants to take action by working in their community, with their government, and with other nonprofits to advance girls’ lives and opportunities.
After surpassing our goal in our Indiegogo campaign to pay for this project, we were able to fund six highly successful rallies across the country.
All of the following rallies were led by young female-identifying activists and received funding Day of the Girl-US Action Team in 2014:
Atlanta, GA - Human Trafficking: SAVE OUR GIRLS.
Buffalo, NY - Helping Girls Build Their Empires
Bowie, MD - Anti-Trafficking Rally
Urbana, IL - Girls of Central Illinois
Tallahassee, FL - Pretty, Powerful, and Professional
El Paso, TX - Latinitas Day of the Girl Festival
