Read them the riot act

Every girl should be reading her community newspaper on a regular basis, and keeping track of how the paper covers girls’ issues. Think the sports page spends way too much time on the guys? Find yourself un-amused by overabundance of beauty pageant coverage? Get into the habit of sounding off by writing letters to the editors! Let them know when they’ve blown something—like spending two pages covering school board decisions without ever asking a student for their opinion—and when they’ve gotten something right. Whatever you say, they’ll know you’re watching– and elected officials read every word in the mainstream media too.
